When you purchase sod from D. Breen Sod Farms, we have the ability to deliver your order within a 150-mile radius of our farm location in Goshen, New York. If your order is large, we do this by using multiple tractor trailers which each hold a total of 12,000 square feet of rolled sod, with each roll measuring 2 ft. x 5 ft. or 10 sq. ft.
Once we arrive at your site, we utilize portable hand trucks to move appropriate numbers of rolls of sod to various locations within your site for planting.
If we are doing your installation, our skilled crews proceed immediately to avoid sod deterioration due to lack of water, light and nutrients from the soil. How well your site has been prepared prior to delivery will determine how well your sod will root and flourish.
Customers with large job sites in need of a significant amount of sod can be assured of delivery same day the sod is harvested and palletized. This guarantees that the sod is fresh and moist when it arrives. Each of our tractor trailers holds a maximum of 12,000 sq. ft. of sod which translates to 1200 rolls at 10 sq. ft. each. Customers on the receiving end should be prepared to immediately install and irrigate the sod to avoid drying out which will be critical to healthy survival. It is recommended that you install a small portion of the delivery and keep irrigated while addressing the rest of the installation. Irrigation is absolutely essential to keeping the sod alive and able to begin putting down roots.
If preferred, smaller orders of sod can be picked up from our Goshen farm location when prearranged. Since we cut your sod to be ready for your pick-up time, it is important that you arrive promptly to avoid any delay in installing and irrigating your sod immediately. Sod cannot long tolerate lack of water without its roots planted. This also means where you intend to plant your sod must be ready with soil prepared in advance, graded, aerated and at the proper pH for your successful installation.
A Pallet of Sod is 4x4x4 or 64 cu. ft.
Each roll of sod is 2 ft x 5 ft or 10 sq. ft.
Each Pallet will hold an average of 60 rolls
or 600 sq. ft. pf sod.
